community
Reverb 10. A chance to reflect on this year and manifest what’s next. Though I’m joining the party a little late, mostly because I just started this blog the beginning of December, I’m going use the prompts provided by Reverb 10 to help me get in the groove of trying to write everyday. But it’s about more than just writing everyday, it’s about setting myself up to think through the huge, monumental life changes that are on my horizon. Changing jobs, changing states, changing living situations. And though all these changes are to come…today I want to focus on the current community I live in. Yesterday’s Reverb topic was community…specifically, “Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011? “
Lovely Saint Joseph, Missouri. Did I ever think I would live in Missouri? Definitely not. Did I ever think I would leave Oklahoma? Nope. I thought I would find some filthy rich rancher and have a gorgeous house out on the prairie. Did it happen that way? No way. Am I happy I got out of Oklahoma? Hell yes.
I’m disappointed to say that in the three years of living in Saint Joseph, I never really became a part of the community. Yes, I met a handful of people at the bar or at church. (the bar and church, ha!) (sin on saturday, repent on sunday, right?) I made wonderful friends at my office and even could have gotten involved in the community. But sadly, I didn’t. Whether it’s right or wrong, I always knew I wouldn’t stay in Missouri. I knew I would move on. And while, I knew I could and should get involved, I never did.
Moving on…my new community will be Fargo, America. And while I know it will take time for this new town and new state to feel like home, I hope to speed up the process by taking the opportunity to branch out and meet people. Junior League, Relay for Life, Church, these are all places I hope to branch out to when I move to Fargo. I hope to create for myself a wonderful network of professional and personal friends that will eventually help me feel like I’m home.
There’s just one more person that will probably go a long way towards creating that homey feeling. This dude…
I always feel at home with him.
My best,
Kelli
scared.
In typical Kelli fashion, once I had actually made the decision to make my own blog, I spent all day naming this dang thing, making a header, contacting WordPress support because I couldn’t get the header thingy to work, 5 hours later still couldn’t get it to work, something finally clicked at 5:43pm and wah la! I have a header. Because Lord knows I couldn’t actually write anything till this ol’ bloggerusky looked pretty.
That’s when the panic set in. Thinking to myself, “umm kelli…you have to actually write in this thing for it to be called a blog.”
So here it is…first blog post. ever. If you’re reading this (which I’m highly sure that know one will for awhile, until I give the Web address to my mom, who will then give it out to her 3rd cousins from Wisconsin) thanks for coming all the way back to my first post ever. If this blog takes off someday, I can always come back and read this really awkward post and know that everyone has to get their start somewhere.
A couple of reasons why this blog was started:
1) A creative outlet.
2) I’m moving to Fargo soon. Yeah, as in North Dakota. As in, freeze my buns off. Which is approximately 14 hours from my friends and family in Oklahoma. Hopefully this will serve as a way for us to stay in touch.
3) When I make this move to Fargo, I’ll be moving in with the bf. That’s right folks. Livin’ in sin. We both from come from good Catholic families, but it’s time. We’ve done the long distance thing for almost two years now. We figure that it’s now or never to see if we can stand each other enough to make it forever. This blog will hopefully serve as a journal for all my relationship blunders and triumphs. I hope we can look back at this blog someday and laugh.
Things you might see on this blog from time to time:
1) Ramblings and rants.
2) Style and fashion posts.
3) Music and pop culture musings.
4) Agriculture advocacy articles.
5) Design and decorating doodles.
Here’s to my first post! And here’s to hoping I actually stick with this thing.
My best,
Kelli
